Cosprop Internship - Historical Tailoring
September - November 2022

During my final year at WCA, I entered a competition to win a paid internship at Cosprop. After interviewing with the team, they chose me for the tailoring position. After graduation, in the Autumn, I started working with Dan Ashworth the head men's tailor. Over the next six weeks I was working on tailored garments for stock. I made two 1840's waistcoats and a frock coat to match.
Being able to work amongst the staff at Cosprop, be privy to fittings and to roam around their stockroom was invaluable to my work. I was tutored by two different tailors, and received much support from both of them.
Each waistcoat was made slightly differently, as the green had trim included around the roll collar. This means I hand stitched the facing down at the end, in place of machining the facing and turning it out. These fabrics provided a challenge when it came to the pattern matching, but that was one of my favourite parts of the process.
